iOS — Over-the-Air (OTA) install

Distribute an Ad Hoc or Enterprise .ipa via a web link — no Mac or iTunes on the phone. Open in Safari on the target iPhone.

How it works

  1. manifest.plist — XML on this server with bundle id (tech.reiwasakura.chat), version, title, and the HTTPS URL of the .ipa.
  2. itms-services link — itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=https://chat.reiwasakura.tech/download/manifest.plist
  3. iOS recognizes the scheme and asks the system installer to read the manifest.
  4. Download & verify — iOS fetches the .ipa, checks the provisioning profile (Ad Hoc UDID or Enterprise cert), then installs to the Home Screen.

Requirements

  1. Export Release Testing (Ad Hoc) or Enterprise — not App Store / Development.
  2. Register each tester’s UDID in the Ad Hoc profile (Enterprise skips UDID lists). Testers get theirs at /udid in Safari.
  3. Publish as public/downloads/reiwa-chat.ipa (HTTPS). Keep manifest.plist URLs in sync.
  4. Both the manifest and the .ipa must be served over HTTPS.
OTA will fail verification if the device UDID is missing from the Ad Hoc profile, the cert expired, or the package is App Store / Development-signed.
Prefer OTA when testers only have an iPhone. Use IPA Installer when you already have that app installed.

iOS — Ad Hoc .ipa → IPA Installer

Use Release Testing (Ad Hoc) or an Enterprise-signed build. App Store and Xcode Development exports are rejected on import. Prefer OTA if testers don’t have IPA Installer.

Export the .ipa in Xcode

  1. Open your project in Xcode on a Mac.
  2. Product → Archive and wait for the archive to finish.
  3. In Organizer, click Distribute App.
  4. Choose Release Testing (Ad Hoc) — not App Store.
  5. Select your Ad Hoc profile, include the target iPhones, and export the .ipa.
  6. Enterprise-signed builds work too. App Store and Development exports are rejected on import.

Upload to this hub (optional)

Place the file as public/downloads/reiwa-chat.ipa on the Chat server (or keep the legacy kyvon-chat.ipa name). Then staff can download it from here.

In IPA Installer — Import & Prepare

  1. Tap Import — on the empty screen or the Import button at the bottom when you already have files. Pick the .ipa from Files.
  2. The app validates automatically (Checking file…). If you see File issue, expand the list — each entry has a fix. Re-export on your Mac and import again.
  3. Tap Prepare and wait for the upload to finish.
  4. Preparing… shows a progress bar. Stay online; if the app closes, reopen it to resume.
  5. When the link is ready, tap Share or Install. The timer in the card corner shows remaining time.
Rejected on import: App Store distribution and Xcode Development exports. Always use Ad Hoc (Release Testing) or Enterprise signing with the target devices registered.
Prefer Safari “Add to Home Screen” or the WebClip profile if you only need the live web app — no signing profile required.
